Chapter 31

Mila stood at the far end of a grassy dueling field littered with boulders that could be used for cover. Across the arena was her opponent, another lvl.140 from the Bloodforged fellowship. Above their heads was a blue prism representing the Lady’s proxy for judging duels, which displayed their names, a projection of their faces and a health bar that was essentially a summary of their respective constitution and mentality attributes along with their physical and magical resistances.

Her opponent was a fellow human named Gakrent Kalrege, though his subrace was a dread with bright green hair all over his pale body compared to her, who had transformed into a drakkar when she had first ascended from Serpent’s Way with an evolved Class. But, since she was a Pioneer, much of the traditional drakkar characteristics were muted in favor of her original Hispanic features. Her skin was still caramel colored and she still had her curly hair, though her eyes were now a vibrant emerald. They didn’t glow quite as much as a plane-born drakkar, but, in a dark room, they would be noticeable.

The dueling ring that they stood in was located on a different floating island separate from those that belonged to the factions and the Mana Pits. This one had been specifically created for the plane-wide tournaments that were held by the twelve factions. There were thirty of these smaller arenas that ringed in a massive centralized stadium where the peak supremes would be fighting later.

In these early days of the plane-wide tournament, the lower-leveled Classholders were the stars of the show. For the last couple of days, the early supreme disciples from each faction demonstrated their combat prowess in duels and now it was time for the middle supremes, though in reality, these were just exhibition matches to showcase the rising stars of the various factions.

Even her duel was technically an exhibition match. There wouldn’t be a semi-final or final round for anything under peak supreme. However, that didn’t mean Mila was participating in this tournament just to show off. If she and the rest of her party made a good showing of their capabilities in their duels, then Twinvale would provide them with worthy rewards. Mila was personally aiming for a spot in the next half-raid that would be going into the dungeon plane, Rugged Prison Canyon, where she hoped to earn another Feat that would increase the percentage of some of her baseline attributes.

She eyed the mostly filled stands around the field. Even for these individual exhibition matches, there were plenty of spectators to go around. She was certain that her friends and party members had similar turnouts for their own duels.

As she waited patiently for the Lady’s prism above to call the official start of the match, she used her inspection ability to get a better look at her opponent.

Immediately, her eyes honed in on the red tattoo adorning Gakrent’s neck that reminded her of a chain-link noose. Bloodforged, huh? He’s going to be a tough one then.
